Talbot County
Talbot County is located on the Eastern shore of Maryland and was named after Lady Grace Talbot, the sister of Cecilius Calvert, the Second Lord Baltimore. Like other counties on the Eastern Shore, it is still largely rural with 52% of the approximate 172,260 land acres zoned for agriculture.
As of 2002, more than 24,000 acres have been protected through various easement programs and another 65,000 acres are subject to Chesapeake Bay Critical Area protection. in 2000, the county owned 703 acres of parkland and there were 485 acres of state-owned parkland, the smallest number in any Maryland county.
The population of 33,812 in 2000 is expected to grow steadily to 38,550 by the year 2015.
