Queen Anne's County
Queen Anne’s county was created in 1706 and named for Queen Anne, the Ruler of England from 1702 to 1714. The county covers about 238,980 land acres and is largely a rural landscape and is the largest producer of corn and soybean in the state. Sixty-eight percent of the land is zoned agricultural and as of 2000, 42,220 acres have been permanently protected through state agricultural and environmental easements and TDR programs. The state owns more than 4,500 acres of land in the county, but there is a need for more local parks.
The county has experienced population growth and is under increasing development pressure. The population of 40,563 in 2000 is expected to reach 52,450 by 2015. This growth is occurring primarily along the Rt.50/301 corridor.
