Prince George's County
Prince George’s County was created from Calvert and Charles counties in 1695 and was named after Prince George of Denmark, husband of Queen Anne, the Queen of England. Due to its location just east of Washington, DC, the county has become almost entirely suburbanized. The county covers approximately 211,750 land acres and has 45,462 acres of agricultural land scattered in the southeast and central east parts of the county.
The population in 2000 was 801,515 and is expected to reach 895,000 by 2015. The county owns about 24,000 acres of parkland and wants to expand its acquisition of open space in the north, central, and southern parts of the county.
