Good news for loss of agricultural land in Maryland, MDP reports.
Every year the Maryland Department of Planning receives a report on “acreage subject to agricultural land transfer tax,” which we use as a measure of farmland conversion. The figure for Fisal Year 2009 - 3,209 acres - was lower than 2008, which itself was by far the lowest since the measure began about 30 years ago. In 2007 and 2006, the totals were13,000 and 20,000 acres lost respectively.
