Frederick County
Frederick County is located approximately 45 miles from both Baltimore and Washington, D.C. and is the state’s largest county in land area. It was formed in 1748 from Baltimore and Prince George’s counties and was named for Frederick Calvert, the sixth and final Lord Baltimore.
As of 2000, agricultural or undeveloped land accounted for 63.3 percent of the county’s 427, 078 acres while 5.6 percent is used as parks or open space. Frederick County is the state’s largest dairy producer, producing one-third of the state’s milk. In 2000 the population was 195,277 and is expected to reach 260,350 by 2015.
