Caroline County
Caroline County is located on the Eastern Shore and is characterized by primarily flat, rural land. The county was established in 1773 and named after the wife of Maryland’s last colonial governor, Robert Eden. Caroline county has seen steady population growth.
In 2000 the population was 29,772 and is projected to reach 40,300 by 2010. The land is heavily cultivated with 89% of its 182,788 acres zoned for agriculture. It has the second highest ranking with the Maryland Agricultural Land Preservation Foundation with over 28,000 acres of agricultural lands permanently protected.
